Proposed Adjustment to Water Rates and Stormwater Fees

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the Jupiter Town Council will consider resolutions during its regular meeting for adjustments to monthly water rates and stormwater fees to address inflationary cost impacts and to ensure long-term sustainability of Jupiter’s water resources.
The proposed increases are 3% for water rates and 7% for stormwater fees.
If the water rate increase is authorized by the Town Council, the net change to the average residential customer using 10,000 gallons of water per month will be an increase of $1.31 per month.
Current Average Residential Monthly Water Charges = $42.77
Proposed Average Residential Monthly Water Charges = $44.08
The Town of Jupiter solely utilizes advanced membrane treatment technology to produce and deliver high quality, award winning drinking water to its customers. Based on a recent rate survey conducted among other water utilities in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Cost, the Town’s water rates with the proposed increase will remain the lowest among twelve others solely operating membrane treatment plants for the production of drinking water, and the 4th lowest among nineteen other utilities using conventional treatment or a combination of membrane treatment and conventional treatment, which is less expensive to operate.
If the application of a 7% indexed adjustment to stormwater fees is authorized by the Town Council, the net change in the typical residential stormwater utility fee will be $0.49 per month.
Current Residential Monthly Stormwater Utility Fee = $7.06
Proposed FY24 Residential Stormwater Utility Fee = $7.55
Jupiter’s stormwater fees, after the 7% increase will remain the 6th lowest among a regional comparison of thirteen other municipalities in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.
The Town’s Utility continues to be recognized nationally by professional organizations and regulatory agencies for excellence in operations, maintenance and compliance. Recent awards received by the Town’s Utility include:
