Don't Be A Victim!
As we continue to maintain safe and secure neighborhoods in Jupiter, the Jupiter Police Department invites the community to join us in “Operation S.A.F.E. Neighborhoods.”
Are you and your property really more secure these days? Or, are you still at risk of being a victim of burglary? Residential burglary statistics may be alarming to you.
Residential Burglaries
Eighty five percent of all residential burglaries usually occur when the home is unoccupied and 65% of these were forced entries. The latest crime statistics for the United States indicate that there is a burglary every twelve seconds. 60% of all residential burglaries occur during daylight hours. Fifty percent of all burglaries occur through unlocked doors.
Preventative Measures
Throughout the year, the Jupiter Police Department continues to inform our citizens of preventative measures to avoid being a victim. Now it’s as easy as remembering four simple letters:
- S. Secure your home, vehicle and property
- A. Alert the police, report suspicious activity
- F. Fight crime in your neighborhood
- E. Ensure you don’t become a victim
The most important thing you can do is call the police to report suspicious activity. Be a good witness; provide the police with detailed descriptions of suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighborhood.
“Operation S.A.F.E. Neighborhoods,” is just one more way we can work together to combat both vehicle and residential burglaries. By following these simple tips you can do your part in fighting crime in your neighborhood. Together we can make a difference.
