Chief of Police Biography
Chief Daniel J. Kerr began his career as an officer for the Fairfax County (VA) Police Department where he successfully worked his way up through the command ranks to the position of Major.
Following his twenty-year career with the Fairfax County Police Department, Chief Kerr spent five-years as the Chief of Police for the Vienna (VA) Police Department and twelve-years as the Chief of Police for the Winter Springs (FL) Police Department.
In June 2009, Chief Kerr was hired as the Deputy Chief for the Jupiter Police Department. After nine years as Deputy Chief, Chief Kerr was appointed to the position of Chief of Police by the Town Manager on June 29, 2018.
Chief Kerr’s diverse law enforcement background has provided him the experience and operational knowledge of all elements of the law enforcement field.
Chief Kerr’s dedication to the community and pro-active approach to community policing are an asset to the department and to keeping the Town of Jupiter safe. Chief Kerr was instrumental in developing the expansion of the department’s Citizen Advisory Group (CAG) from only a few members to the large group of members who now represent different communities and businesses within our Town.
Chief Kerr earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from American University in Washington D.C. and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Phoenix. Chief Kerr is also a graduate of the 161st session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Chief Kerr is married and has four children and is honored to be the Chief of Police and a resident of one of the safest towns in Palm Beach County.
