Course Description
Explore the unique aspects of life in Jupiterand the inner workings of Jupiter’s local government!Using the Town’s strategic plan as a framework, thisprogram is designed around the six “themes” in Jupiter’s strategic plan: - All Neighborhoods as Desirable Places to Live
- Jupiter as a Livable Community
- Being “Uniquely” Jupiter
- Improved Mobility within Jupiter
- Strong Local Economy-More Jobs for Residents
- Continuing Responsive Town Government
These themes define the long-term goals for the community and determine the programs and initiatives offered and developed by the local government.
During the sessions, you will learn about Jupiter’s history and heritage, and how it has shaped life in Jupiter today.You will understand how the Town’s natural, physical, recreational, and financial assets are managed by Town leaders to enhance quality of life, provide a safe and secure community, and provide for managed growth and a strong local economy.You will have an opportunity to meet each member of Jupiter’s town council, the town manager, and key members of town staff who will help you to understand town programs, and have an opportunity to ask questions of your local leaders.
This is a panel/moderator style course, held at FAU's Jupiter campus in the Lifelong Learning Center. It is designed to be informative and interactive, and participants willbe offered optional tours of town areas or facilities as a supplement to the panel sessions.
Course Components:
Panel Session I: “ResponsiveTownGovernment” and “Being Uniquely Jupiter”
Learn about Jupiter’s Council/Manager form of government and how Town Council and Town Staff interact to accomplish community goals.You will also learn about history, nature, conservation and community efforts to maintain Jupiter’s “uniqueness”.
Panel Session II: “All Neighborhoods as Desirable Places to Live,” and "Jupiter as a Livable Community"
Hear how the Town’s resources work together to improve the quality of life in Jupiter’s neighborhoods street-by-street. Learn about managing growth to serve the recreational and service needs of Jupiter’s residents to create a livable Jupiter – now and at “buildout.”
Panel Session III: “Improved Mobility Within Jupiter” and “Strong Local Economy”
This session is focused on the transportation systems within Jupiter, plans for the future, and how Jupiter’s transportation network will connect with the “rest of the world”. Then, learn how the Life Sciences industry has taken hold in Jupiter, and what partnerships are forming to support the vision of Palm BeachCountyas a “Life Sciences hub”.
