Community Broadband Initiative

Next-generation broadband has become a critical resource in communities that support their growing digital needs. These technologies provide access to a wide range of resources, services, and products that enhance communities’ access to the global economy. Broadband services are no longer a luxury, but a necessity, enabling businesses to compete and grow as more business is done online. Often times, local broadband services do not meet the needs of the business community, in terms of performance, reliability and cost. As a result, many communities have taken it upon themselves to supplement existing broadband services in areas where municipal infrastructure is available.

The Town of Jupiter understands the importance of broadband to our business community and is taking steps to ensure that next-generation broadband infrastructure is available for them to compete and thrive in the new economy. Jupiter’s broadband initiative seeks to identify opportunities that use the City’s fiber-optic network to strengthen our businesses access to advanced broadband services and equip our community for the future. In participation with local service providers, Jupiter will embark on the development of a fiber-optic network that will equip our Town with the high-speed digital highways that are required to deliver next-generation broadband.

Service Provider Information

The Town of Jupiter is currently evaluating the opportunities that a community broadband network would present to the area, through strategic investments in fiber-optic infrastructure.  The Town will operate as a transport and facilities provider, offering Metro Ethernet local loop, co-location and related services to communications service providers.  The Town is carrier-neutral and does not intend to compete with providers or offer end user services.

Jupiter is currently soliciting feedback from communications providers who are interested in providing services through the Town's broadband network.  The below information packet provides details on services offered, rates, technical information, interconnection policies, terms and conditions.  Service providers are invited to meet with the Town's Information Systems Department to discuss service provider needs, ideas, and options that my help providers more effectively serve the local community.
