Karen Golonka

Mayor Karen Golonka is honored to serve as Jupiter's Mayor, representing a town with wonderful natural assets, special character, friendly people, and growing economic success. Karen was first elected Mayor in 1991, and most recently re-elected in 2010. As Jupiter has grown, it has been the Mayor's goal to insure that Jupiter matures in a sustainable fashion, setting a framework to maintain and enhance the special qualities that make Jupiter unique, preserving many of Jupiter's "small town" qualities while ensuring a vibrant community for future generations.

Her priorities include: Continue responsible growth management and sound fiscal policies. Promote strong, stable neighborhoods. Support bioscience and high tech clusters developing in Jupiter, as well as our small businesses. Protect our valuable natural resources. Provide amenities desired by residents, of all ages. Provide responsive town government for the quality of life issues that most concern our residents.

Mayor Golonka has represented the Town on many countywide, regional and state organizations, including currently, the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council and the Bioscience Land Use Advisory Board. She has represented the Town as a speaker at state and national planning conferences to highlight some of Jupiter's "best practices" in planning. Outside of her Council responsibilities, she is involved in the community including serving as a member of the Jupiter Medical Center Board of Trustees, and participating in community "clean-ups" with the Friends of Jupiter Beach and on environmental lands.

Karen has lived in Jupiter for 30 years. She grew up in Virginia, outside the Washington D.C. area, where she developed an interest in government and public service. She has a bachelor's degree in Urban Studies from the University of Virginia, and 2 years of master's education in urban planning and growth management/public administration, from FSU and FAU respectively.

Mayor Golonka's professional career includes 17 years as an urban planner/planning director and planning consultant in the public sector.

Karen and her husband Michael Grella have been married for 25 years. They reside in the northern end of Jupiter, where they are often seen walking their dogs.
