For customers who own rental properties whether residential or commercial, certain policies are in place for continual water service to the location.
As the property owner, you are responsible for the continued payment of established services to the location when a rental property becomes vacant. Under most circumstances, the tenant will have the water turned off when they vacate the premises to ensure they are not billed for utility services past their lease termination date. In order to resume water service to the location the owner must complete an Owner 45 Day Water Service Application.

The water meter will be turned off once the 45-day maximum is reached. As the property owner, you will continue to be billed for all utility charges until such time the next tenant or owner makes application for service at the location. A deposit and application fee will be required to continue water service past the 45-day period. Property owners will be billed for base utility charges upon the property becoming vacant, regardless of whether or not an owner 45-day application is completed. These base utility charges may include: water base facility charge, utility tax or surcharge, garbage/recycling yard waste charges, and stormwater charge.
It is recommended that all property owners notify the utility upon closing on the sale of property. The utility may then obtain the final meter reading for the owner and to provide an accurate billing of final charges.
