If you do not have this free software please . Rules Rule #1, Two Bases: There are two bases at first and home plates so as to eliminate any contact. Rule #2, Base Running: Regular senior softball rules will apply. Runner must tag all bases with no overruning second or third base. Runner can be tagged out for overrun. No sliding going into bases, but runner may slide back attempting to return to a base. Base runners must remain on bases until batter makes contact with pitched ball. Base runners caught off base on a missed swing will be declared “out.” Runners must be tagged by defensive player to be called out on non-force plays. a: When running to second or third base with no hope of reaching it before the throw, the player must move away from the throw to avoid a collision with the fielder. Rule # 3, Batting: All players must be in batting lineup. Extra players should be rotated into the defensive lineup. Try to give all players equal playing time. Commitment line: Catcher/fielder has to tag the plate not the rug or the runner for an out at home plate. Runner can return to third base if he has not passed the commitment line. Once past the line runner must continue toward home plate. Rule # 4, Designated Runner: A batter who reaches first base as a runner is not entitled to have a designated runner. Only pre-determined players who cannot run from the batter’s box will be allowed a designated runner from behind home plate. The designated runner will be the last batter to make an out or the last batter who can run. Players running to first base must run to the outside bag unless there is a chance of advancing. Players running to home must touch the auxiliary home plate in order for the run to score. Rule # 5, Five Run Rule: A team scoring five runs in one inning must take the field so that the other team can bat. This makes for more complete games. However, there is no limit on runs scored in the last inning. Rule # 6, Balls and Strikes: A walk requires four balls. A strikeout requires three strikes or two strikes followed by one foul ball. Pitches hitting home plate or the mat are strikes. Catchers can make an out on pop-ups behind the home plate (i.e., same as baseball). Rule # 7, Umpires: The team not in the field will supply home plate umpire and base umpire. Team captain/manager must provide these umpires. Managers have to quickly put umpires in position in order to complete 9 innings at reasonable time. Base umpires must stand on outfield grass. Umpires’ decisions are final. Rule # 8, Eligibility: The league will accept any player 55 and older from Jupiter at any time of the season. If any problems arise during the season the Committee will meet to determine if any actions need to be taken. Out of town players, such as Lake Worth, Stuart, etc. will only play if we need them to complete a team roster. They are never to take any league player’s position. They also must be of league age. |
Rule # 9, Illegal Bats: As per Town of Jupiter regulations, all composite bats or parts thereof are considered illegal. Also, the bats used in the league are very costly so please lean them against the fence and do not throw them at any obstacle. Also tape your name on them for identification purposes. Bats with yellow and/or red tape are not to be used without permission of the owner. Rule # 10, No Play Zone: All outfielders must position themselves no closer than 136 feet from home plate except for the midfielder/shortfielder. Note: Light poles in left and right fields are the distance. Rule # 11, Under Age Visiting Players: Committee voted to allow only visiting men who are under age 55 and are here for a VERY brief time to play on a not to interfere basis. This means if we have enough players these visitors will not be allowed to play. Rule # 12, Position of Fielders: There will only be a mid-or shortfielder when there are more than four outfielders. a) If a team has 4 outfielders and one (1) shortfielder, all 4 outfielders must stay behind the line in outfield: b) If a team has 4 outfielders and NO shortfielder, all 4 outfielders must stay behind line. Shortfielder may play anywhere on the field either as an outfielder or as an extra infielder. Rule # 13, Funds: All players will pay a fee (as determined by the committee) for the winter and summer for purchase of balls, safety equipment, first aid items, cups and any other miscellaneous items. Shin guards: Although the committee cannot mandate the use of shin guards for all pitchers, it is strongly “encouraged” that shin guards be used to prevent leg injuries. BOARD MEMBERS |
