Course Description
Explore the unique aspects of life in Jupiter and the inner workings of Jupiter's local government! Using the Town's strategic plan as a framework, this program is designed around the Town's vision and five "themes" in Jupiter's strategic plan:
VISION: Jupiter is a DISTINCTIVE COASTAL COMMUNITY committed to
PRESERVING ITS UNIQUE CHARACTER AND HISTORY
and VIBRANT SMALL TOWN FEEL!
- All Neighborhoods as Desirable Places to Live
- Jupiter as a Unique, Livable Community
- Improved Mobility within Jupiter
- Strong Local Economy
- Responsive, Sustainable Local Government
These themes define the long-term goals for the community and determine the programs and initiatives offered and developed by the local government.
During the sessions, you will learn about Jupiter's history and heritage, and how it has shaped life in Jupiter today. You will understand how the Town's natural, physical, recreational, and financial assets are managed by Town leaders to enhance quality of life, provide a safe and secure community, and provide for managed growth and a strong local economy. You will have an opportunity to meet each member of Jupiter's town council, the town manager, and key members of town staff who will help you to understand town programs, and have an opportunity to ask questions of your local leaders. Sessions are panel-moderator style, held at the Jupiter Community Center.
Optional water plant, police department and history tours supplement the two panel sessions. This year, a new workshop called "Green U" will also be offered. At Green U, experts will teach residents about native plant species and how to integrate them into their landscaping. They will also cover mangroves, and water conservation (xeriscape), and provide tips and tricks for including native species in small landscaping projects such as patios, balconies, and courtyards.
