  Riverwalk

undefinedIn September 1998, Jupiter adopted the US 1/Intracoastal Waterway Zoning District, which provides a method to design an active, livable center that stressed the importance of public access along the waterway. That design is called Riverwalk. It is located along the eastern shoreline of the Intracoastal Waterway and. When completed, will extend from the Jupiter Ridge Natural Area in the south to the southern shoreline of the Jupiter Inlet.

Location: Eastern shoreline of the Intracoastal Waterway and the Southside of the Jupiter Inlet

Length: Upon completion, this multi-purpose recreational corridor will be approximately 2.5 miles in length.

Facilities: The Riverwalk has been master-planned to include a 15' wide pedestrian/bicycle path along the water, lighting, street furniture, observation areas, docks, fishing opportunities, public restrooms, parking, natural areas, an entertainment district, an urban park and access to several park facilities including Jupiter Ridge, Burt Reynolds and DuBois Parks.

Completion Date: This is a multi-phase project that depends on site development. The Town anticipates the section from the Indiantown Road bridge to Ocean Way (approximately 1 mile) will be complete and operational by mid 2007. The second phase, the area along the Jupiter Inlet, should be initiated by 2008 subject to site plan development.

Estimated associated costs: $25-30 million

Funding sources: Private developers, Town of Jupiter, Florida Inland Navigational District, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Metropolitan Planning Organization, State of Florida, U.S. Federal Government Transportation Grants

After four years of planning and permitting the first sections were completed in the spring of 2002. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to open the Jupiter Yacht Club section. Dignitaries and guests enjoyed the entertainment and the interactive fountains.

Three phases have been constructed and are open to the public. The section at Mangrove Bay includes 1,500 linear feet of Riverwalk along with a 22 car parking lot. The Mangrove Bay Riverwalk section is a quiet, natural environment, characterized by mature mangrove trees and wildlife. The public can access the parking lot from U.S. Highway 1 at the southernmost entrance to Mangrove Bay. The section at Jupiter Yacht Club includes 1,000 linear feet of Riverwalk that connects Coastal Way and the marina basin. This section is typical of a marina environment and includes retail shops and a restaurant. See the opening photos above for pictures of this area.  Residents and visitors are able to park their cars at the marina parking lot or under the Indiantown Road Bridge at the Events Plaza.  It's just a short Riverwalk south of the Bridge to access the shops at the Jupiter Yacht Club \Townhallgraphics_sharedEA_PROJECT_FOLDERSRW_webpage graphicsRiverwalkMap2010smallMarina.

The Events Plaza on the Riverwalk, the section just north from Jupiter Yacht Club was completed in October, 2006. This section includes a fishing platform, approximately 1400 linear feet of the Riverwalk, a parking lot under the bridge, and a plaza for small waterfront events.

In 2007 a pedestrian bridge over the lagoon just south of the Jupiter Yacht Club is expected to be constructed. It will cross over the water from the marina basin south to the Best Western Hotel.
