Members' Biographical Information
In 2007, Jupiter's Town Council established an Economic Development Advisory Board to oversee the distribution of funds from its $3 million Economic Development Fund. Currently, the Board has eight members from a variety of organizations and industries:
- Peter J. Applefield, CCIM
Mr. Applefield has over 25 years of experience in the South and Central Florida real estate markets, and specializes in industrial, office and investment sales. He is partner and co-founder of Applefield Waxman, Inc., where he manages the brokerage operations.
- Marco A. Baez-Vasquez, Ph.D., M.B.A.
Dr. Baez’s experience includes bridging the gap between academia and industry in the Industrial Liaison Program in Mexico, patent office familiarity, and knowledge of the bio-energy sector. Dr. Baez is currently Head of Bioenergy BioAmericas Program for the Biotechnology Center of Excellence Corporation, with offices in Boston and Jupiter. - Tod Fairbanks, Ph.D.
Retired
from Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2007, Dr. Fairbanks licensed cancer
compounds into the company resulting in the need to evaluate
approximately 300 opportunities from universities and biotech companies
each year. - Libby Handel, Ph.D., Chair
Dr.
Handel currently serves as the Director of Biotechnology Programs at
Palm Beach Community College, and has experience managing intellectual
property portfolios and scientific research. - Raymond B. Johnson, Vice-Chair
Mr. Johnson brings an excellent understanding of the need for combining science and business development through his experience with Cytonics Corporation, a local biotechnology firm focused on protein based research to detect and block major joint pain. - Sara J. Misselhorn
Currently Director of Public Affairs for the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies, Ms. Misselhorn has served as Governor Jeb Bush’s representative on the Scripps Research Institute project. She has also served as Project Director of the Scripps Florida Funding Foundation, which oversees the $310 million investment in Scripps, and as Life Sciences Liaison for the Governor's Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development. - Pam Morrison
Ms. Morrison is President of the Paragon Foundation of Palm Beach County, Inc. She has a broad range of experience in small and minority business program management, economic and community development, and management and financial assistance. - Frederick D Sancilio, Ph.D.
CEO of Riviera Beach based pharmaceutical laboratory Sancilio &Company, Inc., Dr. Sancilio participated in advocating for the location of The Scripps Research Institute in North County.
